Festival of Snow

  • Walker Art Center 725 Vineland Place Minneapolis, MN, 55403 (map)

Via Walker Art Center:

Celebrate winter and the Walker’s collection by joining us for an evening of cold weather adventure and creativity, presented in conjunction with the Great Northern Festival.

Local artists gather on the front lawn to craft winter interpretations of iconic artwork. With snow as their medium, they pull inspiration from recognizable pieces in the Walker’s collections, with each artist bringing their own twist to the outdoor “gallery.”

The exhibition Multiple Realities features the original First Snow Festival, a 1970 project by artist Alex Mlynárčik. Emphasizing creative expression and interpretation of the fine arts, the First Snow Festival used the medium of snow to express the poetics of art production with the public and away from commercial interests. Through impermanent materials and playful reappropriation of works of art, a temporary and improvised tradition was born.

If you prefer traditional wintertime fun, sleds are available for the snowy hillside. Activities are entirely outdoors. Programming is contingent on weather; check back for updates. No prior registration required.
