Celebrate Dr. MLK, Jr. Day

Throughout the Twin Cities, special events are being held virtually and in-person to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Martin Luther King Jr. Check out these activities happening across the city to honor the famous civil rights leader, available at no cost:

44th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert
Jan. 19, 3 PM • Ted Mann Concert Hall / virtual option

The annual MLK Tribute Concert, sponsored by the Office for Equity and Diversity and the School of Music, is a multidisciplinary celebration intermixing the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with musical performances. Hosted and curated by alumnus G. Phillip Shoultz, III, the program honors the 60th anniversary of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech.


39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration
Jan. 20, 10 AM: Ordway Center for the Performing Arts

You are invited to advance the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This is one of the oldest and largest celebrations in the nation. Events will be hosted across the state, inspiring Minnesotans to create personal, social, and economic progress. Dr. King wisely said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?” A good first step is to plan on attending the events below, then invite your neighbors, family, and friends.

Enjoy performances, art activities, lunch, giveaways for kids, and more. Free and fun for all ages, the celebration will showcase local artists whose performances are dedicated to ideals of community well-being like housing and environmental justice, and the elimination of race-based disparities to honor the work and vision of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

An evening celebration at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center with speakers, live entertainment and the presentation of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s Living the Dream award.
