Native Night Market

Native Night Market is co-hosted with our friends from Blue Hummingbird Woman, Eagle Condor Indigenous Wellness Center, Trickster Tacos, and Flores De Miel. There will be local vendors, performing artists and even kids activities on some nights! See you this Friday, Oct. 11 as we kick off Indigenous Peoples Day weekend!


Owámni Falling Water Festival
Saturday, Oct. 12 • 1 – 5 PM
Mill Ruins Park & Water Works Park (Downtown Minneapolis)

Owámni is what the Dakota called the area at St. Anthony Falls. It means, “whirling or falling water” in the Dakota language, making it an appropriate name for this festival along the Mississippi River. This free, family-friendly event is co-presented by the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and the St Anthony Falls Heritage Board to celebrate indigenous Minnesota culture with music, art, food and more!


Indigenous Peoples Day Rally
Monday, Oct. 14 • 11 AM – 2 PM
American Indian OIC (1845 E Franklin Ave)

Join us on Indigenous Peoples Day at the American Indian OIC for a rally with food, games, giveaway prizes and more! This event is in partnership with the Indian Health Board, National Urban Indian Family Coalition, American Indian OIC, and Make Voting A Tradition, a project of the Native American Community Development Institute.


Reframing Our Stories & Our Home: Native Minnesota

Witness the resilience and strength of Minnesota’s Native communities through stories reframed by their own words, experiences, and perspectives. As part of the 'Our Home: Native Minnesota' exhibit, 'Reframing Our Stories' showcases the strength and resilience of Native people and inspires audiences to learn about the past, present, and future of these communities.

As a gallery, AMRA is one of the few Midwest hubs for contemporary Native art and an integral place for advancing the careers of Native artists. AMRA is a national platform for the elevation of contemporary Native artists and provides continued support for artists and art professionals. A potter from Kha’p’o Owingeh (Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico), Jody Folwell has revolutionized Pueblo pottery—and Native art more broadly—over the past five decades. The first Pueblo artist to place personal, political and social narratives on her pottery, she has pushed the boundaries of form, content, and design while remaining firmly within the art traditions of her community.

Twin Cities Digital Artist Marlena Myles, a member of the Spirit Lake Dakota tribe, presents an augmented reality art exhibition at the Arboretum, which begins in the Harrison Sculpture Garden. Visitors use their cell phones to download the Revelo AR app to view digital images and audio at stops along the walk which honors, educates and connects visitors to Dakota history, culture and significance of the land through art and storytelling.

The Minneapolis American Indian Center provides educational and social services to more than 10,000 members of the Minneapolis American Indian community every year. We preserve and support Native cultural traditions through art, youth, and intergenerational programs. Owamni is a full-service Indigenous restaurant created by The Sioux Chef in 2021 for the purposes of job creation (featuring a majority Native staff), moving more Indigenous products developed by Native food producers, and showcasing true North American Indigenous foods and culture. In 2022, Owamni was awarded the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant.
