East Isles Safety Walking Club Update
By Paula Chesley
After two neighborhood walks, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Businesses we encountered on Hennepin Avenue expressed gratitude that we’re out and about. On our recent walk, we introduced our group at Frattalone’s Hardware, where a staff member reported that they had been hit hard by crime. Whenever possible, please shop at Frattalone’s and other Hennepin Avenue businesses to support and keep them in our community.
Participating neighborhood walkers shared that they feel safer in the neighborhood and enjoy the neighborly engagement. Walkers reported that people take notice that neighbors are serving as the eyes and ears for our neighborhood. We are especially grateful to Fifth Precinct Inspector Katie Blackwell and Crime Prevention Specialist Jennifer Waisanen for joining us on our first walk, as well as Aileen Johnson, who started the original walking safety group in the North Loop, for giving us helpful information about getting our walking group started.
